The Oakland Raiders have activated young OT Matt McCants, from the practise squad, following the decision to place Jared Veldheer on the reserve/injured-designated to return list. This is a sensible move, as we need cover for both OT positions, particularly as previous backup Tony Bergstrom suffered a season ending injury.
McCants is a former 6th round pick of the New York Giants (2012), who offers excellent potential at the OT position. He played left tackle for UAB, and has a great wingspan. He’s got decent height (6’6″) and isn’t to plump (310 lbs), indeed he could do with bulking up a bit if anything, as many young lineman find. He also has a reported nasty side, which I must admit I have missed in our linemen in recent years.
I’m just pleased we didn’t bring Willie Smith back 😉
